Ponder the Mystery
ARTIST: William Shatner
RELEASE: 2013
INTERVIEWEES: William Shatner, Billy Sherwood
One of the more unlikely entries in the concept album category comes from an even more unlikely source. Actor Willam Shatner worked with musician Billy Sherwood to craft a release that combines atmospheric progressive rock and introspective spoken-word. Ponder the Mystery is one of the more unique and idiosyncratic record releases with a conceptual character.
Shatner readily concedes that if one is a traditionalist when it comes to music, it would be easy enough to think, "Well, Ponder the Mystery doesn't sound like anything or anybody [else], so it must be a joke." But it's not, Shatner insists. "It's just a different approach."
