Travellers in Space and Time
ARTIST: The Apples in Stereo
RELEASE: 2010
INTERVIEWEE: Robert Schneider
There's a cliché associated with mathematicians: they're often seen as serious, cerebral types. And while Robert Schneider has the cerebral part down pat, he's also possessed of effusive enthusiasm and a childlike sense of wonder. Wrapping all of those qualities into one, he created compelling music as leader of The Apples in Stereo. And that group's final album to date, 2010's Travellers in Space and Time is an enduring work that's equal parts ambitious and giddy.
Ideas regarding past and future would blur where the album project was concerned. "I was trying to make an album that would be a time capsule for ten years in the future," Schneider says. "When they open the time capsule in the future, it will sound like what kids are listening to."
