S.F. Sorrow
ARTIST: The Pretty Things
RELEASE: 1968
INTERVIEWEE: Wally Waller
In the rock era, many bands of consequence could trace their roots back to their teenage years. But for the lineup of The Pretty Things that made the band's most consequential album, S.F. Sorrow, the seeds were planted when its key members were just out of their toddler years. Wally Waller and Phil May were childhood friends in London; the relationship they forged in their formative years would lay the groundwork for a creatively fruitful musical collaboration several years down the road.
By the mid '60s, "The r&b thing had been wearing a bit thin" for The Pretty Things, Waller recalls. "Phil was looking around for something new, and psychedelia was bubbling under."
